Governing Documents.
The Groups governing documents are a lease dated 8th February 1988 and; The Trusts of the Boys Scouts Association Trust Deed of 1955. The Group is also registered with the Charity Commission through a Trust Deed dated 10th July 1967; our registration can be accessed via then Charity Commission website www.charity-commission.gov.uk. The Group is a trust established under its rules, which are common to all Scout Groups, Policy, Organisation, and Rules, commonly known as POR. The full copy of POR can be obtained from www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2003/index.htm
Trustee Appointments, Recruiting, Induction and Training.
The Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association, which can be found in chapter 13 www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2003/chapter_13.htm A number of the appointment as Trustees are 'Ex Officio' in lay-mans terms this means by nature of the office, i.e. a section leader is automatically a Trustee of the group. All sections leaders are required to undergo 'Leader Training'; this is modular based training, which includes their roles and responsibilities as Trustee.
The appointments of the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary are non-scouting appointments, in lay mans terms they will not hold a scouting appointment to the group to which they are attached, they are elected annually at the Groups AGM. The Scout Association nationally provides a guide for each of these posts, which the group provides as part of their induction to the group as seen at www.scoutbase.org.uk/support/index.htm. There are also national and local training courses that the post-holders are encouraged to attend. If there are any national or legislative changes these will be informed to the group via the County and District network, such issues will always form an agenda item at the Group Executive.
Area of Operation.
The official area of operation that is registered with the Charity Commission is Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire. However the Groups 'real' catchment area is Hurst and the surrounding areas of Ashton-under-Lyne, including Hartshead, Hazelhurst, Hurst Cross and Smallshaw; although it is not uncommon to receive members from further a field.
No one is excluded.
