Wednesday Cubs Voyager, 8-10 ½ years old, HQ, 7.00 to 8.30 pm
We started the year with 12 cubs and ended with 10, this could be seen as a downside; however the upside is that they cubs got too old and had to move onto pastures new, into the scouts. We have again held a "bring a buddy" night to encourage new members, and have had two cubs join from Wednesday beavers with another 2 expected later in the year. We have done some star gazing, I am afraid not at celebrities but up to the sky as our cubs tried their hand at being budding little Patrick Moore's, and awarded the astronomers badges. We are currently working towards our global challenge badge A big vote of thanks to the parents that have helped us during the year, transport to camps and helping us with the building of bird boxes and learning about card making. We want along to the District camp at Ashworth Valley, and thankful to the district for arranging such events as we all know that organizing should events is difficult and time consuming, it is something we would find difficult to arrange ourselves. As we look to the future we have already arranged to attend the District Camp again in May 2006. In particular we are going to try and build stronger relationships with our local community

| Thursday Cubs - Mariner 8 - 10 ½ years old, HQ 7.00pm to 8.30 pm
Camps and Outings This year we have been on District camp at Ashworth Valley Scout site, despite the weather everybody had a really good time. We took part in several activities including shooting, archery, orienteering and climbing. During the summer we attended "Euro Cub" as the only pack from We took part in the annual District "Hike to the Pike to Fly a kite and have a Bite" it was a lovely day and we had great fun although the numbers were limited. We hope to see more next year. Sports Events The big disappointment of the year was the enforced cancellation of the District Swimming Gala due the venue not being available. During January we did participate in the District 5-a-side football competition and received tremendous help from Dave Blake (parent and football coach). We did exceptionally well with two teams coming 1st and 3rd in the finals. We intermingled our teams and so the cubs played for both teams, they all did exceptionally well. You can imagine they were very tired but winning is a great feeling. It was a first for the Mariner Cubs, as we have never got that far in the competition before. "Well Done" to everyone.
Badges We have completed several badges throughout the year, some at District Cub Camp included
On Pack Nights we have completed the Home Help badge and work towards the naturalist badge. We have also had a number of cubs complete the Chief Scouts Silver Award, the highest award that can be achieved in cubs, before moving up to scouts. Other stuff Our Cubs have shown themselves to be very caring people as we did two sponsored events to help the people affected by the tsunami in the Our pack nights have included many activities, making goodies for Mothers day, Christmas and Easter and outdoor activities such as fire lighting and cooking. Year on year the Mariner Pack keeps getting better and better, Great Activities, Great Fun and Great Cubs Karen Longley-Assistant Cub Scout Leader | ||
